Call for Papers

The AEE Canada East chapter is planning the 5th annual Strategic Transition to Electrification and Emissions Reduction (STEER) conference in the fall of 2025 in the Halifax Regional Municipality. This conference aims to create an information and idea exchange focused on building capacity around reducing carbon emissions from the built environment.

The conference brings together professionals, innovators, and policymakers to explore strategies that drive meaningful change in how we design, operate, and finance low-carbon buildings and communities.

  • Workforce development and collaboration in the green building sector
  • Electrification of buildings and integration with smart grids
  • Climate-resilient retrofits for aging infrastructure
  • Innovative building design strategies
  • Strategic low carbon community energy systems
  • Carbon accounting frameworks for building renovations
  • AI-driven HVAC automation and predictive maintenance
  • National Building Code and National Energy Code for Buildings 2020 adoption
  • Role of refrigerants such as R-32 in the decarbonization conversation
  • Affordable net-zero housing initiatives

If you are interested in speaking at the conference, you’re invited to submit an abstract for consideration.

AEE Canada East is committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants. We strongly encourage individuals from equity-deserving groups – including, but not limited to, women, Indigenous peoples, racialized individuals, persons with disabilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community – to submit abstracts and participate in the conference. We believe that diverse perspectives are essential to driving innovation and achieving meaningful progress in the energy sector.
